Once Upon a Time Burning Question: Who is Emma’s True Love?

Once Upon A Time doesn’t mess around when it comes to the True Love between Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), but the same can’t be said for their daughter. Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) has more potential True Loves than the Princess and the Pea has mattresses, and the number always seems to be growing. Will any of them capture Emma’s heart (fair warning: going by Cora’s recent efforts, capturing Emma Swan’s heart is harder than it looks), or is Storybrooke’s sheriff destined to live sadly ever after?

Neal Cassady (Michael Raymond-James) may have the best chance at winning Emma’s heart, as he had it once before. The two met a decade ago in Portland when Emma was stealing a car Neal had already stolen. They were happy for a time, Bonny-and-Clydeing it down the west coast, but planning to give up their life of crime to settle down in Tallahassee. Then, spoilsport August (Eion Bailey) stepped in and convinced Neal to ditch Emma so she could fulfill her destiny.

All signs point to Neal popping up in next week’s episode (Season 2, Episode 14: “Manhattan”) as Rumple’s long-lost son, Baelfire, but we may be more eager to see the Neal/Emma reunion. Sure, he left her the sweet VW bug they had both stolen, but he also left her pregnant and in jail, so we’re thinking she might not be purely overjoyed to see him. Still, they have a kid together and a history. Could Neal be Emma’s True Love?

Speaking of August’s intrusion into Emma’s love life, we know he promised Geppetto he would steer Emma in the right direction, but that doesn’t mean his actions couldn’t have been at least partially motivated by his own feelings for Emma.

August and Emma came over to the “Land Without Magic” together, with August vowing to take care of her. Sure, he’s done a crap job of it so far, but it’s still kind of sweet, and we couldn’t help but fall a little in love with the idea of these two together when August first drove into town on his motorcycle in season one, especially when August and Henry joined forces to try to convince Emma of the curse.

Even if August has been less-than-perfect in watching over Emma, we can’t help but remember that wooden boy with the big heart who jumped into the ocean to save his father. We’re willing to give him another chance.

The dashing and dastardly Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) has not been very lucky in love thus far. He fell for and ran off with Rumplestiltskin’s (Robert Carlyle) wife, and that did not go over well. Rumple found them, ripping out his wife’[s heart, and cut off Hook’s arm in retribution. Hook has been seeking vengeance ever since. If anything, that shows a serious degree of loyalty, amirite?

Emma and Hook ran into each other in the Enchanted Forest earlier this season, and ever since, witty banter and sexual tension has ensued. For a time, it seemed the two had a chance – climbing a beanstalk and taking down a giant together makes for a good first date story – but Emma chose to double-cross Hook rather than take the chance of trusting him. Now that both are in the “Land Without Magic,” there could be a chance for these two tough cookies. Emma is seemingly immune to Hook’s charms, but can she really turn down those blue, blue eyes forever?

Sheriff Graham
Way back in the first half of season one, Emma and Sheriff Graham (Jamie Dornan) made quite the team, be-bopping around Storybrooke, trying to figure out what the hell was going on with that crazy town and its kooky residents. It seemed like these two really had something special. Then, Graham finally kissed Emma...and Regina (Lana Parrilla) crushed his heart (not cool, Regina, not cool). We thought that was the end of that, but OUAT has a way of getting around silly concepts like “death,” and word on the Interweb is that Jamie has been seen filming on set. Anyone for co-sheriffs?

...Or Emma could just ditch all of these bozos and eat Cinnabons with Henry. At the end of season one, it was Emma’s kiss of True Love for her son that woke Henry from the sleeping curse and broke the spell over Storybrooke. We’re not saying Emma doesn’t have another kind of True Love in her future, but she has enough on her plate right now figuring out how to be a good mother to Henry.

Speaking of plates, Henry ate a poisoned apple pastry off of one just to prove to Emma who she really was. Maybe it’s time one of her potential suitors stepped it up and showed a little self-sacrifice.

Who do you think is Emma’s True Love? Sound off in the comments below!
