Author: Kate Middleton Is a Painfully Thin, Machine-Made Mannequin

Kate Middleton, aka the Duchess of Cambridge, was
all smiles today as cameras caught her (and The Royal Bump) out and about in London. But clearly not everyone is enamored with Kate.

Hilary Mantel — author of Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies, novels about Henry VIII’s wives and their struggles to produce an heir — just slammed Kate at a London Review of Books lecture on Royal Bodies at the British Museum.

According to The Independent, Hilary's early first impression of Kate was of “a jointed doll on which certain rags are hung. In those days she was a shop-window mannequin, with no personality of her own, entirely defined by what she wore.”

She also described Kate as as "painfully thin as anyone could wish, without quirks, without oddities, without the risk of the emergence of character. ... She appears precision-made, machine-made, so different from Diana whose human awkwardness and emotional incontinence showed in her every gesture. [Kate] appeared to have been designed by a committee and built by craftsmen, with a perfect plastic smile and the spindles of her limbs hand-turned and gloss-varnished."

She even compared Kate unfavorably to Henry VIII’s beheaded second wife, Anne Boleyn, who was “a power player, a clever and determined woman.” However, the author added, “In the end she [Anne] was valued for her body parts, not her intellect or her soul; it was her womb that was central to her story… a royal lady is a royal vagina.” As she puts it, “The royal body exists to be looked at.”

Well, considering the interest in all things Kate … maybe that last sentence is fair. The rest seems extreme, but it sounds like this author and Morrissey should hang out sometime!
