Kenya Moore’s Blog: How Pageants Helped Save Her Life
Former Miss U.S.A. Kenya Moore is outspoken about how being a beauty queen has shaped her life, and after seeing the young girls in Cynthia Bailey’s Miss Renaissance Pageant, she has decided to open up even more about how competing potentially saved her from going down a much more dangerous path.
In her BravoTV.com blog Kenya claims pageants were “a way of escaping my dangerous and often perilous environment”. And by entering her first competition at age 14, Kenya found her passion and escaped otherwise dangerous circumstances.
Since pageants have had such a profound effect on Kenya’s life, she is also quick to defend them from those that are unable to grasp their importance. “Although many of you sent positive messages via Twitter and Facebook, there are still those who will thrive on negativism or resort to unwarranted personal attacks in an attempt to diminish the good we convey with this worldwide stage,” she explains. “We will continue to pray for you all that your perspective may change to acceptance and tolerance.”
