Logic Fails in Glee Season 4, Episode 14: “I Do”

Week after week, we watch Glee. We can’t help it — we’re addicted. Yet, week after week, there are just some things about the plot that don’t add up.

Look: Glee is Glee. To a certain degree, you just have to suspended reality a bit when you watch it — and this Valentine’s Day’s Season 4, Episode 14: “I Do" was no different. Here are our top three moments of the episode that just didn’t quite add up.

Why Wasn’t Bieste at the Wedding?

During the episode, Sue (Jane Lynch) made the biting observation that Will (Matthew Morrison), a grown man, was best friends with a 19-year-old boy. While it's true that Finn (Cory Monteith) and Will are close — best man close, in fact — Finn isn’t Will’s only friend.

What happened to
Coach Beiste (Dot-Marie Jones)? She and Will talk all the time. They’re inseparable in the teacher’s lounge, and they even hang out together and sing karaoke at bars. So did Beiste really not even merit an invite to the wedding at all? Of course, she could have been one of the ones affected with that not-really-explained Avian bird flu. But other than that: No invite. No mention. No nothing. It was like she doesn’t even exist.

Tina and Mike Didn’t Even Speak

Each and every one of the McKinley graduates made it back for the wedding, including Mike (Harry Shum Jr.) — though you’d barely know it based on how little screen time he got. Other than a few seconds of showing off his skills on the dance floor, Mike was virtually absent from the wedding.

Even more noticeable, he didn’t talk to his ex-girlfriend, Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), at all. Look, we know neither Tina nor Mike gets much screen time anyway, but when other exes like Finchel and Klaine were hooking up in hotel rooms, how is it that Tina and Mike never even once acknowledged each other’s existence? It just doesn't make sense.

Rachel Didn’t Use Birth Control

Look, we realize that Glee loves its shocking cliffhangers. And Rachel’s (Lea Michele) big pregnancy scandal provides just that. Granted, we still don’t know for sure if she actually is pregnant. But if she is... why?

Rachel is a modern, educated woman. She lives in New York City. She and Brody (Dean Geyer) are sexually active. The concept of safe sex shouldn’t be anything new. So we have to ask — how exactly is it that she and (Finn? Brody?) didn’t use protection?

Using birth control just seems like common sense, especially after Rachel watched Quinn (Dianna Agron) deal with an unplanned teen pregnancy. Who knows. Maybe she just forgot to take a pill. But the Rachel Berry we know seems too smart to be having unprotected sex. That twist just seemed to come out of nowhere.
