Pretty Little Liars Burning Question: Do We Want Ali to Be Alive?
Whoever she (or he) is, the decision-maker of the “A” team has made torturing Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Aria (Lucy Hale), Hanna (Ashley Benson), and Emily (Shay Mitchell) her main goal in Pretty Little Liarsso far, and we don’t see that changing anytime soon.
“A” has put the Liars in mortal danger, screwed up their relationships with the people they love, and psychologically tormented them. It sounds like a horrible question to ask, but in the context of “A” having tortured our Liars for the past three seasons, do we really want it to be Alison (Sasha Pieterse)?
The Liars Loved Her Alison does not always come across as the best friend ever in flashbacks to the time before her death. She can be manipulative, fake, and downright cruel to her supposed best friends. But the fact remains that Aria, Hanna, Emily, and Spencer loved her and though we may not know Ali that well as a character, we know these girls. Would they really care so much about someone who wasn’t at least a semi-good friend? We can’t imagine that Ali didn’t care for them in her own way in return and, if that is the case, we’re not sure we want her to be alive if it means she is the “A” that has been tearing their lives apart.
Worst Sister Ever We’re not entirely sure what Jason’s (Drew Van Acker) deal is, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t freak out a little when the “A” Team tried to kill him in a wayward elevator! Though Ali and Jason didn’t always seem to get along, Jason obviously loved and was wildly protective of his younger sister. He fell apart when he couldn’t remember if he had anything to do with her death. We don’t want to believe that Ali would attempt to kill her own big brother.
How We Would Feel About Ali Alive As lovely as it would be for the Liar’s to find Ali alive, we can’t help but wonder what that would most likely mean: that Ali has been behind their torture. As terrible as her death was for the Liars, how would the acknowledgment of that fact affect the girls? We can’t help but hope Ali isn’t the mysterious “A” if it means that she has betrayed the people who care most about her.
The Twin Theory This lends more credence to the theory that “A” is actually Ali’s twin sister (especially given Sara Shepard, author of the PLL books, also wrote The Lying Game about twin sisters separated at birth who end up impersonating each other). We don’t want to believe that Ali could have something to do with the Liars’ torture, not to mention the instances when they have been seriously injured. We’ll have to keep watching to find out who “A,” but a part of us can’t help but hope it’s not Ali.
Would you be upset if Ali were revealed to be the mysterious “A,” or would you be happy if it meant she survived? Let us know in the comments below!
