Revenge Creator Mike Kelley Talks Tricking the Audience With Amanda’s Death

From the start of Season 2 of Revenge, fans and Hamptonites alike have been desperate to know whose hand was lying at the bottom of the ocean.

After Sunday’s drama-packed mid-season climax in “Sacrifice,” we learned that the hand belonged to Nate Ryan, who was not only a character we didn’t care about, but also someone we never even thought of as being the victim.

Since the hand belonged to a dead married man, our first concern was for newlywed Jack Porter. But apparently Nate had been married this whole time!

And the executive producer told TV Guide that actor Michael Trucco’s "face just fell" when he was fitted for the wedding band.

But Nate’s death definitely wasn’t the biggest shock of Sunday night. When the promo told us that Emily Thorne would “pay the ultimate price,” it proved to be surprisingly accurate. The real Emily Thorne did pay the ultimate price when she gave up her life protecting the real Amanda Clarke.

"I thought [the promo] was kind of clever, because at the end of the day it proved true," Mike told the site. "We felt that Amanda had achieved a satisfying arc and needed to exit."

And as a parting gift, Mike gave actress Margarita Levieva the tire iron Fauxmanda used to kill Frank Stevens in her first episode. Sigh, memories.

Were you surprised by Sunday’s episode or did you predict it from the start? Tell us below!
