We were under the impression that Adam Levine worshiped Christina Aguilera's weaves like the rest of The USofA, but apparently this Voice coach was raised Jewish! Adam's father and maternal grandfather are both Jewish, and while Adam is down with his roots, he isn't currently practicing. In fact, he decided not to have a Bar Mitzvah!
"I felt as though a lot of kids were trying to cash in [on their Bar Mitzvah]," Adam tells The Jewish Chronicle. "They were trying to make a bunch of money, and that’s fine. I just don’t think it’s the most respectful way to deal with God and beliefs and years and years and years of cultural heritage."
Nowadays, Adam devotes himself to spirituality in general, rather than strictly Jewish practices. In fact, he's all about doing yoga –– though for a while he worried that it was too mainstream.
"I was skeptical, to say the least," he says. "I was wary of the cliches associated with yoga: spirituality used as a marketing tool or Eastern philosophy sold at Starbucks to disenchanted lawyers and accountants looking for meaning. What I soon realized is that yoga welcomes everyone –– that’s extremely appealing.”
Sigh, Adam is so worldly! In fact, we're so inspired that we just face-planted into the downward dog.
