Kris Jenner Didn’t Force Her Kids Onto Reality TV, Just Their Weddings
Kris Jenner has gotten no end of grief for her role as the Kardashian family “momager,” but she didn’t drag her family into reality stardom kicking and screaming. They were just as enthusiastic about the idea as she was!
Things kicked off at a family barbecue, where Kris first filmed an audition reel to send producer Ryan Seacrest. First scene: Kris talking about Kim’s butt. “My family could have said, ‘Are you out of your mind?’” Kris told US Weekly, “But everyone was excited!”
Of course, things have changed a lot since Keeping Up With The Kardashians debuted in 2007. Daughters Kourtney, Kim and Khloe have become bona fide stars since then, thanks in large part to Kris’ work as their manager. The woman knows a good business opportunity when she sees one!
OK, so her eye for business may have been a teensy weensy bit pushy when it came to her daughter’s weddings.
Kris was definitely acting as Kim’s manager, not her mom, when she made the deal that turned Kim’s wedding to Kris Humphries into a two-night television special on E!, sold the wedding photos for $1.5 million dollars, and made Kim feel like it was too late to stop a wedding she shouldn’t have gone through with.
“I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn’t get off when now I know I probably should have,” Kim wrote after she decided to end her marriage after 72 days. “I got caught up with the hoopla and the filming of the TV show that when I probably should have ended my relationship, I didn’t know how to and didn’t want to disappoint a lot of people.”
Khloe ran into that same enthusiasm when she and NBA star Lamar Odom got married on TV in 2009. “I wanted to go to the courthouse,” she said. “My mom is the one who wanted a wedding.”
Yikes! Maybe that’s why Kourtney is in no rush to tie the knot with boyfriend Scott Disick. That’s a lot of pressure!
