Kelly Clarkson Weighs in On the New American Idol Judges
2013 -- The Year of Kelly Clarkson. Can we just make it official already? Everywhere we turn, the inaugural American Idol winner is dishing on her life, upcoming nuptials, and career, and we can’t get enough. In her latest interview with Walter Scott of Parade, the Nashville-based singer gave her two cents on the Ameircan Idol judges this year.
“The show needed to be freshened up a bit. I’m a huge Mariah Carey fan. If I had seen her as one of the judges when I was trying out, that would have been so cool.”
We couldn’t agree more. Nicki Minaj has been completely engaging, while Mariah has added sheer star power. Even Keith Urban, who many were anticipating to be a bit boring during the preseason, has been surprisingly funny and right on the money when it comes to providing honest feedback. The American Idol judges panel has breathed new life into the long-running show.
Mr. Scott asked Kelly about being called the “Breakup Song Queen (wait, we thought that was Taylor Swift),” and she joked, “I’m in a different place romantically, a new chapter, but I’m sure Brandon [Blackstock] will piss me off at some point and I’ll write a song that will please people!” Kelly, uncensored, folks -- you’ve gotta love it!
As for her go-to karaoke song, she said, “Definitely Eminem! I love doing rap songs because I’m terrible, and that’s what makes it funny.”
We can’t imagine her being terrible, but we’d love to see her rap. Perhaps we can count on a Nicki/Kelly collaboration. A girl can dream.
