American Idol 2013: Best Las Vegas Performances, Round 1 (The Girls)

The folks behind American Idol have wanted a female winner for so long and, barring unforeseen circumstances, it seems their wishes may finally come true for season 12.

There were so many great performances on Wednesday, it’s nearly impossible to pick a favorite. But one itty bitty girl took us by surprise in a huge way, and that was Adriana Latonio.

A tiny Filipino gal like last year’s runner-up, Jessica Sanchez, this girl made her presence known from moment one. Judge Nicki Minaj described her perfectly as she read back her notes: "Little tiny thing but she commands the stage from the second she walks out." The petite singer from Anchorage, Alaska, also went big when it came to song choice, too, taking on Aretha Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way”. And ya know what? Ain’t no way that girl’s going anywhere any time soon.

The other performance that touched our hearts and souls was Kree Harrison’s “Up To the Mountain”. Sung on the Idol stage before by Kelly Clarkson and Crystal Bowersox, this Nashville demo singer had big shoes to fill -- and filled them, she did. Dressed in an oversized blouse and jeans, the judges were impressed at how effortless the country singer makes performing look. As Keith Urban said, “You’re a natural born singer.” You might recall that Nicki said of her, “that’s the voice,” during Hollywood Week, and this week she told her she makes the song “sexy.” If we had to guess right now, we’d definitely put her in the top five this year.

Who were your favorites from Wednesday night? Let us know!
