American Idol 2013 Ratings Up Thursday, But Big Bang Theory Still Rules

American Idol 2013 ratings may still be abysmal compared to previous seasons, but the show finally did see a tiny upswing this Thursday night.

Let’s face it -- just the term “sudden death” is dramatic enough to get us to pay attention and boost the American Idol ratings a tad. So with Ryan Seacrest talking of “one chance, one song -- no mercy” in reference to the new Season 12 format in Las Vegas, it’s not surprising to learn that the ratings increased a smidge over last week.

While CBS still won the night on Thursday due to the immense popularity of The Big Bang Theory, FOX won the evening with adults 18-49, which is the sweet spot when it comes to advertisers.

Here’s how the numbers broke down:

CBS -- 17.35 million viewers/5.4 rating/16 share in adults 18-49
FOX -- 13.5 million viewers/3.9 rating/10 share in adults 18-49
CW -- 2.89 million viewers/1.3 rating/4 share in adults 18-49
ABC -- 5.32 million viewers/1.1 rating/3 share in adults 18-49
NBC -- 3.08 million viewers/1.1 rating/3 share in adults 18-49

After 12 seasons, the execs at American Idol decided they needed to shake things up, and it looks like the new format breathed a whisp of new life into the show and, in turn, gave the ratings a boost. We’ll see how they do next week for Las Vegas, round two.
