Glee Romance: Which Season 4 Valentine’s Hookup Was Hottest?
Plenty of couples hooked up during GleeSeason 4, Episode 14: “I Do." It was Valentine’s Day, after all. And a wedding. What more do you need to help get you in the mood? Some of the hookups were expected, while others came completely out of the blue.
But we love nothing more than Glee relationship drama, and this episode was full of it. Now we’re ranking the top five hottest hookups of the night. Do you agree with our pick for the top spot?
Look, we’re well aware that Ryder (Blake Jenner) and Marley (Melissa Benoist) didn’t actually hook up. They weren’t even each other’s Valentine’s date! But Ryder was the mastermind behind every single romantic thing that Jake (Jacob Artist) did for his girlfriend throughout the episode, and his tender, heartfelt gestures couldn't have been sweeter.
Watching Ryder pine after Marley broke our hearts. Although we know we’re supposed to be rooting for Jarley, we secretly loved watching Ryder plant a kiss on Marley at the end of the episode. He may have apologized for it, but we wish he wouldn’t have. It might not have been an actual hookup, but Ryder and Marley’s kiss was still one of our favorite moments of the entire night.
Artie’s (Kevin McHale) love life has been virtually nonexistent as of late, and we love that he’s finally getting a bit of romance again. And since Artie’s definitely been known to get a bit sassy with his girlfriends in the past — as Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) can well attest — we love that Betty (The Glee Project’s Ali Stroker) has no problem giving him some sass right back.
After a bit of a rough start, but plenty of chemistry-charged banter, Artie and Betty booked it to a hotel room — and their conversation in bed afterwards was equal parts sweet and funny. So far, we don’t think Ali is scheduled for any more Glee episodes. But if Betty’s return is a possibility, then we’d love to see her back!
They may have shared a tender scene at the wedding in which Finn (Cory Monteith) makes cute references to gardening and tries to convince Rachel (Lea Michele) she’s still in love with him, but when it actually came time for Finn and Rachel to hook up in that hotel room, the resulting scene was actually pretty tame.
No kissing. Barely any touching. No sexy teasing or foreplay. Finn and Rachel simply took off their clothes and got into bed. Sure, she gave him a sultry little bedroom eye as she coyly removed her top under the covers. But for the most part, there seemed to be very little flirting involved. C’mon, Glee. This was a Finchel sex scene! You could have given us so much more sexiness to swoon over. The actual scene fell a little flat.
One of the Klaine fandom’s biggest gripes is how Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) rarely seem to touch each other. After they hooked up in Season 3’s “The First Time,” the boys suddenly seemed to stop almost all forms of physical contact. They didn’t kiss. They barely even held hands. Was it so much to ask for a bit of PDA?!
Thankfully, that all changed in this episode. Kurt and Blaine hooked up twice: Once in the car before the wedding, and once in a hotel room after. And there was kissing involved. Hot, heavy, Kurt-on-top kissing. (We may or may not have squealed audibly and jumped a few feet in the air.) That Klaine hookup was going to be a little hard to beat.
Until this happened. Yes, Quinn (Dianna Agron) and Santana (Naya Rivera) actually had sex. Granted, this doesn’t mean Quinn’s a lesbian — she told Santana that she wanted to make sure that fact was clear. College girls like to experiment, and it was a one-time thing. Or, in Quinntana’s case, a two-time thing. Because, well... why not?
Quinn and Santana’s hookup gets our vote for the best of the night, in part because it was so unexpected. Sure, the signs were there at the reception and leading up to it. But ask us last week if we’d ever have thought these too would hook up? We’d say no way.
Our biggest problem with the Quinntana scene is the same issue we had with Finchel’s. There just wasn’t any real PDA. We love that Glee is finally giving us some ladylove — RIP Brittana, never forget! — but would it have killed anyone to actually give us a girl-on-girl kiss?
Actually, come to think of it, it might have. The idea of watching two girls as hot as Dianna and Naya lock lips on screen? We’re actually not sure we’d be able to take it. We might just have a heart attack.
