Kandi Burruss Fights Haters of Her Gospel Song, “Stay Prayed Up”
Kandi Burruss was really excited for the world to hear her first gospel song, “Stay Prayed Up,” but she was also unprepared for people to bash the track because they felt someone with a line of sex toys was unfit to sing gospel music.
But even though she was surprised by some of the negative feedback, Kandi stands by the song itself and her right to record it. “Thank God I don’t let things get to me. I’m a very open and honest person. I say what I want to say when I want to say it. If I feel like doing something, I do it,” she later explained in her BravoTV.com blog. I felt that I wanted to do this song, so I did, and I’m glad I did.”
Like all of her songs before, this tune also has a message from Kandi with the ability to profoundly impact others going through a rough time — and we applaud our girl for standing up to her haters!
“This song is my testimony. I’ve been through things in my life that would break some people down, but I push through it and I try not to wallow in my sorrows, because I have a daughter and I never want her to see me break down,” she continued. “I pray every day. I’m not the poster child of what you might envision as a religious woman, and I know that, but I come from a religious family.”
Kandi also noted that even though there were a lot of people throwing her shade for her gospel venture, she has received plenty of positive feedback for the song, too!
