American Idol 2013: Christabel Clack Says Church Prepared Her For Idol
Wonder where fabulous American Idol 2013 hopeful Cristabel Clack learned to sing? For this Top 40 contestant, her faith brought her the experience she needed to make it to the Vegas rounds on American Idol Season 12... and hopefully beyond.
When you hear “Church Lady,” you probably think of Dana Carvey doing that silly dance on SNL. Move over, Dana, as “Church Girl” is here, and she’s bound to make a lasting impression on American Idol 2013. Dubbed that due to the popular services she started in her hometown of San Antonio, Cristabel Clack has been singing in church since she was little. And she thinks that may be what has prepared her for her AmericanIdol moment.
"Being on stage all the time, Sunday in, Sunday out -- I think it has definitely prepared me," Cristabel told FoxSanAntonio.com.
In fact, she said she’s been “born and raised in church.”
While the services she and her husband, Brandon, started at Living Waters Community Church in the Airport Holiday Inn were already popular, since her appearance on Idol, it’s the hottest ticket in town. Since she doesn’t leave for the Las Vegas round until Thursday, she treated the church members to one last performance.
"People are just so excited about it and they want to be a part and they want come and just be free to worship."
While she obviously puts her faith in a higher power, Cristabel is certainly banking a lot on her performances this season. As we reported, the singer and her family lost their home to foreclosure a few years ago.
Cristabel and Brandon are set to expand services in April but, as we all know, she may have a prior commitment. And she’s certainly not going to turn this one down.
"I may miss it. But that's kind of a good thing. It's not terribly bad because that means that I'm still in the competition."
Churchgoers and viewers alike may very well be watching this 29-year-old mother of three sing for quite a while. Her initial audition of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” blew the judges away, with Nicki Minaj even saying she liked some parts of it better than the original! Unfortunately, her group performance during Hollywood Week was a bit of a hot mess, but the judges still recognized Cristabel’s talent and sent her through to the solo round. Next up? Vegas, baby!
What do you think of Cristabel’s chances to win it all?
