Oscars 2013: Is Seth MacFarlane the Worst Oscar Host Ever? (POLL)

Did William Shatner say what America was thinking all along? Shatner popped up up at the 2013 Oscars and chastized first-time Oscars host Seth MacFarlane with, "Your jokes are tatseless and inappropriate and everyone ends up hating you [...] Why can't Tina [Fey] and Amy [Poehler] host everything?"

So did first-time host MacFarlane's snarky-sleazy Family Guy sensibility breathe new life into the show? Or did it alienate older viewers?

Well, to start MacFarlane kicked off the show with a bad Rihanna and Chris Brown abuse joke that sequed into a song entirely about boobs (and Charlize Theron was so not pleased by his mention of her), but was he really that bad? We can at least say for certain that his Sinatra-esque song-and-dance numbers weren't all that bad!

Here are a few of his snarkiest snarks from his opening monologue:

"Django Unchained! Now that was an intense film. This is the story of a man fighting to get back his woman, who's been subjected to unthinkable violence. Or as Chris Brown and Rihanna call it, a date movie." After some negative response from the crowd, he responded, "Oooh, no. That's what we were afraid he would do."

"Jennifer Lawrence has a great attitude about this whole thing. This is a charming, talented woman. I was talking with her backstage and she told me whether she wins or loses, it was just an honor that Meryl Streep wasn't nominated."

"Tonight's ceremony is being watched by close to a billion people worldwide, which is why later tonight Jodie Foster will be up here in a bit to ask for her privacy."

So, what did you guys think of Seth MacFarlane's 2013 Oscars performance?

Head on over to our Red Carpet site for the full A-list experience, where we'll have live coverage of the show Sunday evening.
