Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars Season 3, Episode 21 Review: What Did You Think of “Out of Sight, Out of Mind”?

Death is common on Pretty Little Liars, but no one expected that shocking twist on Season 3, Episode 21: “Out of Sight, Out of Mind.” Someone’s days are numbered in Rosewood on and he/she’s death has huge ramifications for all for all of the Liars — especially Spencer (Troian Bellisario).

So what went down in Rosewood this week? Grab your tissues and read on for Wetpaint Entertainment's review of the episode. Then, you can rate it yourself!

After trailing Mona in the woods, Spencer came across a body, and who she found will change the course of the series forever. Toby (Keegan Allen) is dead — or so we think.

After all, the only identifying marker we have is Toby’s tattoo, which Spencer spotted on his back. But when she went to pull his helmet off his head, Mona “distracted” her. How do we know that body in the woods is actually Toby? Who’s to say “A” didn’t come across Wilden’s body and try to disguise him as Toby to make Spencer crack? Sure, we could be in denial, but we refuse to believe Toby is dead without seeing his face. Has three seasons of Pretty Little Liars taught us nothing?

Needless to say, Toby’s death didn’t sit well with Spencer, who totally went catatonic in the woods (Bella Swan-style) after the gruesome discovery. The next morning, the police find her wandering around and commit her to Radley. But has Spencer finally cracked? Or is she playing Mona’s game?

While Spencer was busy dealing with Mona, Emily (Shay Mitchell) was on the hunt for Toby. After Spencer tells her and Aria (Lucy Hale) the truth about Toby’s betrayal, Emily freaks. She’ll do anything to get to the bottom of why he would join the “A” team. But Emily’s snooping puts her at risk; she’s now on “A’s” hit list. However, Em’s investigation eventually leads to a text from “Toby.” He tells her to meet him. (Yeah, like that sounds like a good idea.)

Needless to say, Toby doesn’t show up (because he’s “dead”). Instead, the girl in the red coat appears, and leaves Em with a message: a mini coffin!

As for Aria, she’s busy dealing with Ezra’s (Ian Harding) newfound fatherhood. Despite some adorable father-son bonding time between Ezra and Malcolm, Aria decides she’s not prepared to be a parent — which is OK because she doesn’t have to be one. Also, Maggie (Ezra’s baby mama) returns after being kicked out of her condo last week. It looks like Maggie and Malcolm might be in Rosewood for good.

Meanwhile, Hanna (Ashley Benson) is growing increasingly more paranoid toward cops. She’s afraid the police are going to come after her mom (despite Wilden’s missing body), so she decides to take matters into her own hands. Hanna, along with Aria, push Wilden’s patrol car into the lake — never to be seen again. That is, until a fisherman catches Wilden’s hat on his line.
