Burnell Taylor in American Idol 2013 Las Vegas Round 4: Best Performance?

We weren’t sure if Louisiana native Burnell Taylor would be able to top his audition performance in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he made American Idol judge Mariah Carey cry with his moving rendition of “I’m Here” from The Color Purple. That alone made him a contestant to watch during Season 12, and he’s proven to be a strong contender this year.

But according to Nicki Minaj, Burnell who performed eighth out of the 10 male contestants gave the best performance of Las Vegas Round 4 by singing John Legend’s “This Time.” She gave him a standing ovation and declared that she would buy a ticket to his concert right then and there. She also noted that because of his story of survival from Hurricane Katrina, he truly deserves a shot at the Idol crown.

Nicki ended her parade of compliments by saying that no one else was close to being in Burnell’s league tonight. While the other judges weren’t as fawning, they all seemed to agree that he gave a standout performance.

Do you agree with Nicki? Did Burnell blow everyone else in the competition out of the water, or was it just alright? Let us know in the comments!
