Lazaro Arbos in American Idol 2013 Las Vegas Round 4: Disappointing Song?

We doubt anyone was shocked Lazaro Arbos’s performance was saved until nearly the end of American Idol 2013 Las Vegas Round 4. A fan favorite from the beginning, this ice cream scooper from Naples, Florida won everyone’s hearts with his struggle to overcome a serious stuttering problem.

We’ve loved Lazaro’s past performances, from his Chicago audition of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” to his Hollywood Week solo performance of Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory.”

He easily sailed on through Hollywood Week to the Las Vegas round, where he made a risky choice by taking on Keith Urban’s “Tonight I Wanna Cry.”

While the audience and judges both seemed to love Lazaro’s voice and the rawness of his performance, he seemed to disappoint with his song choice and stage presence. His nerves were so apparent that Mariah Carey pointed out he looked close to tears at the beginning of his song. Even Keith, who wrote the tune himself, said that it wasn't the best selection for Lazaro.

After the judgement, Lazaro Arbos mosied over to Ryan Seacrest’s perch on the stage, where he gave a brief assessment of his own performance. Stuttering withstanding, Lazaro himself appeared to acknowledge he didn’t put his strongest foot forward.

But what did you think? Was Lazaro’s performance underwhelming, or did he exceed your expectations? Let us know in the comments below!
