American Idol 2013: Lazaro Arbos “Loves” His Supporters SO Much
American Idol 2013 contestant Lazaro Arbos feels “great” about making the Season 12 Top 20. Adorable in a pink shirt, suspenders and bow tie, Lazaro may struggle to get across what he’s trying to say, but it is crystal clear how excited he is to move on in the competition.
Lazaro Arbos moved the judges with his gorgeous voice and the story of his lifelong struggle with a debilitating stutter. Although the Cuban-born singer can barely speak a word without grasping long seconds for the next syllable, his voice was perfectly pure in his rendition of “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” at the Chicago auditions.
Lazaro was afflicted with the stutter at age six, and despite a lot of therapy, nothing has been able to cure it. The handsome bow-tie lover works as an ice cream scooper, which he has stated is the “only job” he can get because of his stutter. “Living with a stutter is really hard,” Lazaro says in his audition intro video. “The things that normal people would think would be so easy, become so hard for me.”
“We don’t know where my stuttering came from,” Lazaro says. “No one really knows why.” After his family moved to the States, Lazaro’s stutter only got worse, which resulted in a lot of bullying when he was young. “No one wanted to hang out with me in school. I had no friends to go out with, so I would be home.”
Lazaro says he hopes to make the “right song choices” in the competition ahead, since he’s received some negative criticism about that so far, and “to do my best every time.” He says he plans to work even harder with the vocal coaches and keep improving. With every performance he does, Lazaro says he gets “a bit more confidence.”
He wants to thank each and every person who is giving him their support. “I love you guys so much. You have no idea how much all that support means to me. Kisses to each and every one.”
