Billie Joe Armstrong’s Green Day Bandmate Supports Singer’s Rant
From the eyeliner to the profanity-laden rants, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has got his rock and roll persona down pat, and it seems he's not the only one who thinks his bad boy behavior is A-OK.
The singer, who had a highly publicized on-stage meltdown last year right before entering rehab for substance abuse, is getting support from bandmate Mike Dirnt for both his cleaned-up life and the bad behavior that sparked the change.
Dirnt told Rolling Stone that he was "cautiously optimistic" about the band's future, having operated with a "deal with your own s**t" mentality prior to Billie Joe's breakdown, in which he cursed out concert promoters and fans at a Las Vegas concert before smashing his guitar.
Billie Joe flew into a rage after hearing the band only had one minute left in their set, for which Dirnt expressed sympathy. “Truth be told, I agreed with what he said, outside of mentioning anybody else,” said Dirnt. “I know that’s not Billie. But the bigger side of it — I actually agreed with the rant. But I was watching my friend and going, ‘You’re out of your f**king mind.’ And we were dealing with a s**tshow.”
