Watch Janelle Arthur Sing “If I Can Dream” in American Idol 2013 Girls Semi-Finals

Janelle Arthur performs Elvis Presley’s “If I Can Dream” in American Idol 2013 girls semi-finals.

More on Janelle...
As with many American Idol 2013 hopefuls, country girl Janelle Arthur is hoping her third time down the Idol Road is the charm. The Oliver Springs, Tennessee, native made it Hollywood Week for season 10 and to Las Vegas in season 11. When talking to her local FOX affiliate, she was asked what she did when she made the Top 40, and she said, “I cried my eyeballs out.” She better have had a lot of tissues handy for when she secured a spot in the Top 20.

As the beautiful 22-year-old revealed in her pre-performance package last week, she is a fitness instructor. And when asked in her Road to Hollywood interview what makes her unique, Janelle said her look, as she is part Irish and part Native American. While it’s always beneficial to have what the judges like to call “the whole package,” this Southern girl’s vocals are certainly what has gotten her so far.

While her performance of “Where the Blacktop Ends” for her initial audition and “I Told You So” during Hollywood week earned her rave reviews with the American Idol 2013 judges, she did have a bit of a misstep in Las Vegas by singing “Just A Kiss” by Lady Antebellum. Keith Urban said that the melodies in that song don’t translate as well with a solo performance. However, she’s been such a standout so far she beat out fellow country girl Rachel Hale for her spot in the semifinals.
