American Idol 2013: Vincent Powell Says Top 20 “Only the Beginning”

American Idol 2013 contestant Vincent Powell says making the Season 12 Top 20 is “only the beginning for this journey I’m trying to conquer.” Still, he says, getting this far in the competition feels very good.

Austin, TX native Vincent Powell first wowed the American Idol judges with his performance of “Rock Me Baby” in the San Antonio auditions, earning his second golden ticket to Hollywood. (He also made it to Hollywood in Season 11, but wasn’t able to earn a spot in the next round.)

Vincent was part of the fabulous ‘Four Tones’ group in the guys’ Hollywood Week and earned even more props from the judges after their performance of “Hold On, I’m Coming” by Sam & Dave. The judges were more than happy to pass Vincent through to the Vegas rounds this for Season 12.

The wise decision by the judges to pass Vincent through was rewarded with his best performance yet of “Cause I Love You” by Lenny Williams in the final Vegas sudden death round.

“I’m excited, but... I’m ready to work.” “It’s exciting, but I’m still determined, this is only the beginning.” Vincent says his performance in Vegas was “one of the best performances I’ve ever done in my life.” The American Idol judges certainly agreed, giving him a rare standing ovation.

After that kind of praise, however, Vincent knows his performances going forward have to be amazing. “I have to take it up a notch... I have to keep the momentum there. It’s a lot of work... Let the games begin!”

Vincent says he wakes up every day with “praise and worship” and that’s how he gets through his day. “I want to thank everyone who has supported me along the way. I want to thank my parents... my brother... my family... my church.”
