Cortez Shaw American Idol 2013 Semi-Finals Performance (VIDEO)
St. Louis is thrilled to back theirAmerican Idol 2013 rep,Curtis Finch, Jr., who is the pride of Missouri. The 25-year-old tutor at a charter school said in his Las Vegas pre-performance package, “Gospel music is in my blood.” In fact, he said he communicates better with the audience when he sings gospel music. Move over,Joshua Ledet!. On his onlineartist page, Curtis is referred to as a “very accomplished and spirited Gospel and Classical singer.” The page also said that he’s worked with such Gospel greats as Dottie Peoples, Donnie McClurkin, and Vanessa Bell-Armstrong. Curtis has shown he has a wicked sense of humor on top of those stellar vocals. When his groupmate,Charlie Askew, wasn’t feeling well during the group performances of Hollywood Week, he said he’d better get it together, as he wanted to be the next American Idol, not going home on American Airlines. In hisamericanidol.com interview last year, Curtis said his inspiration for auditioning was Fantasia, as her stint on the show was her “last chance” to make it in the music industry. As he put it, after seeing that, “it was nothing for me to come and at least try.”
While last year didn’t pan out for the singer known as “CJ,” season 12 could be it for him. After his performance of “Superstar” in Las Vegas,Keith Urban called his voice “beautiful,” and told him to “preach on, Brother Curtis.”Nicki Minaj said, “Every time you step on that stage you take the competition to another level.”Randy Jackson andMariah Carey loved him, too, although Randy did say he needs to “keep it young” rather than old-fashioned.
If he can give his performances a contemporary twist, Curtis could do extremely well on American Idol 2013.
