Downton Abbey Season 4: Could [SPOILERS] Be the Next to Die?
Downton AbbeySeason 4 is now in production and, last we heard, no one was scheduled to be killed off, ala Lady Sybil or Matthew Crawley. We are upset at the loss of O’Brien — who are we going to love to hate now?! — but at least she isn’t dead. The actress, Siobhan Finneran, decided to move on and it’s easy to just say that O’Brien found another job (and yet impossible to imagine anyone would really want to hire her).
Since Downton Abbey seems to rise and fall on the whims of its actors, we have to hope that Dame Maggie Smith doesn’t really get sick of playing Lady Violet, the Dowager Countess of Grantham. However, the actress had an interview with NBC News and mentioned the logical assumption that her character must be nearing the end of her days, especially after four seasons of time jumps from the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 to the roaring '20s.
"She's gotta drop down dead at some point,” Dame Maggie told NBC News (via Zap2it) of Violet, "'cause I must be about 110, logically, in the thing. So I don't know what's going to happen. I've had quite enough of Violet, I should say." What? She's had enough?! "I'm only kidding," she added.
Can you imagine Downton without Violet’s one-liners? Do you think they could still go on?
