Joy Behar is leaving ABC’s The View after 16.5 years on the talk show, Deadline reports. That leaves co-creator/executive producer Barbara Walters as the only original cast member to remain.
Why leave now? “It seemed like the right time,” Joy told Deadline. “You reach a point when you say to yourself, ‘Do I want to keep doing this?’ There are other things on my plate I want to do — I’ve been writing a play, I’ve been neglecting my standup.” She also reportedly had “a positive meeting” with CNN head Jeff Zucker and is interested in doing “an intelligent talk show where you have room to breath.”
Joy will still be on The View for the next few months, and told Deadline, “I have a lot of friends there, and I will miss everyone I’ve worked with because we have a family there.”
Meanwhile, Star magazine recently had a report claiming The View was giving Joy the boot and replacing her with either Brooke Shields or Alexandra Wentworth. A rep for Joy told RumorFix, “There is no chance Joy is going to be replaced on The View.” But that doesn’t sound like the case anymore. Unless they just leave her spot open?
