Dancing With The Stars

DWTS Season 16: Tristan MacManus and Dorothy Hamill on Their Struggles

The Dancing With the Stars Season 16 premiere is less than a week away (on March 18, 2013), so it's high time we start to get to know this season's couples better. Fortunately, Tristan MacManus and Dorothy Hamill dropped by GMA on Monday morning to talk about the rehearsal process.

Dorothy admitted she doesn't feel performance ready yet — she still has a week! — in part because she's been skating with the Stars on Ice show at the same time as trying to learn the fundamentals of ballroom. Fortunately, that's over now, so she can give DWTS her full attention.

She also explained that despite her athletic background, she finds getting a handle on the different sort of movement you need in ballroom difficult. "I don't do well in shoes," she joked. "I spent most of my life in ice skates."

They do have one advantage: They're starting with contemporary, which Tristan thinks is closer to ice skating than normal ballroom. Hopefully they'll be able to use it as a transition to more traditional ballroom dances.

Despite the ice skating distraction, Tristan thinks Dorothy is doing "great."
