Gwyneth Paltrow’s New Cookbook Reveals Her Kids’ Low-Carb Diet
Gwyneth Paltrow’s new cookbook It’s All Good is turning quite a few heads, but it’s not her recipes that are drawing all the attention. For the first time, the Iron Man 3 star reveals in writing that her entire family is on a low-carb diet. Yep, Gwyneth’s husband Chris Martin of Coldplay is banned from bread and pasta, not to mention the couples’ daughter Apple, 8, and son Moses, 6.
“Every single nutritionist, doctor and health-conscious person I have ever come across... seems to concur that (gluten) is tough on the system,” the 40-year-old Oscar-winning actress writes, “and many of us are at best intolerant of it and at worst allergic to it.”
It sounds like Gwynnie is just looking out for her family’s health, which is definitely something we would expect of the notoriously health-conscious star. However, London-based public health nutritionist Yvonne Wake says that Gwyneth is being “foolish” and that she might even be harming her kids. “Kids need carbohydrate because it gives them glycogen,” Wake says, “which keeps your brain going. Without it they won’t be able to think straight as their brain won’t be functioning and their thinking patterns will be slow.” Along with the previous defense of her diet choice, Gwyneth does admit, “Sometimes when my family is not eating pasta, bread, or processed grains like white rice, we’re left with that specific hunger that comes with avoiding carbs.” That worries us a bit, considering her children are still growing, and most kids their age still innocently think mac ‘n’ cheese is a food group! But we can also understand wanting the best for your children and starting them off with a solid health track record. What do you think? Do you support Gwyneth’s enforcement of a low-carb diet for her kids, or is she being too restricting? Sound off below! Source: Daily Mail, It’s All Good
