Jared Leto on How He Lost 30 Lbs. For Film: “I Basically Didn’t Eat”
30 Seconds to Mars? More like, 30 pounds to lose.
Jared Leto, frontman of the rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, lost 30 pounds to co-star in the new Matthew McConaughey film The Dallas Buyers' Club, according to E! Online.
So how did Jared lose all the weight? Uh, you don't wanna know.
"I got down to 116 [pounds] or something," Jared admits. "I just basically didn't eat. I ate very little." Hmm. That doesn't sound like the most enjoyable diet in the world.
Jared says this isn't the first time he's had to get skinny for a role.
"I had done similar things with weight, but this was different," he explains. "I think the role demanded that commitment."
"It was about how does that effect how I walk, how I talked, who I am, how I feel," Jared continues. "You know, you feel very fragile and delicate and unsafe."
As you might guess, not everyone in Jared's life approved of his dramatic weight loss.
"It's not a great thing to see," he admits. "If you run into people or see family who don't know what you're doing, they think that you're sick." We can't say we blame them. The dude was ridiculously skinny.
The film is based on a true story from the '80s about a Texan with AIDS, played by Matthew McConaughey, who smuggled alternative drugs into the U.S. from Mexico.
