Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Kyle Richards Blasts Report Sister Kim Richards Has Relapsed — Exclusive

After watching her painful struggle with alcohol on seasons one and two of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, everyone was rooting for Kim Richards when she decided to seek treatment in late 2011. Since then, she’s seemed happier, healthier and more lucid than ever with one exception. On the Season 3 cast trip to Paris, she appeared out of it. When confronted by her sister, Kyle Richards, Kim explained that she had accidentally mixed up her medication by taking a pill that made her drowsy.

Now, however, comes a new report claiming Kim was acting “loopy” at a recent family gathering and that her inner circle feared she had “fallen off the wagon.”

Wetpaint Entertainment reached out to Kyle, who gave us her honest take on the matter.

Wetpaint Entertainment: There’ a story out there right now which basically claims Kim relapsed at the birthday party of her niece and yours, Paris Hilton.
Kyle Richards: You know, I hadn’t even heard about the story until you just told me about it. I don’t do Google alerts or read websites or stories that I think will give me anxiety. But I wasn’t at that birthday party, I had another event that night.

Do you think there are people out there hoping Kim will fail or waiting for her to relapse?
I can just say I know a lot of people out there are going to wonder about her behavior. But I knew in Paris it wasn’t alcohol, I just knew that she wasn’t herself. I honestly believe she mixed up her meds. Everything I’ve seen up to that moment all the struggle and all her strength made me believe her. Since then, I’ve only seen her being solid.

How do both of you handle it when outsiders speculate she’s slipped?
I know it’s frustrating for her because she’s worked so hard. And people will come up to me and say, ‘Oh, you’re so naïve.’ Look, I know there have been times in the past where she’s said she’s fine and that’s not been the case. But right now, I’m with her almost all the time and I know what she’s saying is true.
