The Bachelorette

Sean Lowe Calls Bachelorette Desiree Hartsock “America’s Sweetheart”

The Bachelor Season 17 seemed to spawn more fan favorites than any season before — from sweet Sarah Herron to sardonic Lesley Murphy to poised AshLee Frazier. So it makes sense that the next ABC unicorn Bachelorette has emerged from Sean Lowe’s lovable pack of ladies: Desiree Hartsock!

Desiree, a 26-year-old fashion designer from Costa Mesa, California, came in fourth during Sean’s season (she was eliminated during hometown dates). ABC announced Des’ Bachelorette reign during The Bachelor Season 17 “After the Final Rose” special, and her newly-engaged ex couldn’t be happier for her.

“They couldn’t have chosen a better Bachelorette,” Sean gushed to People during his media blitz with fiancee Catherine Giudici. “I’ve said from the beginning, my vote was always for Des. She’s America’s sweetheart, and I think she’s going into it with sincere intentions.”

Catherine echoed Sean’s praise for Des in a conference call with reporters the day after the finale. “I really like Desiree and I think that she is going to do a really good job,” Catherine said, adding, “She is really sweet and she is really pretty and I think that she obviously has really good intentions.”

The only person not super psyched for Desiree’s TV tenure? Her brother, Nate Hartsock, who famously pulled Sean aside during his hometown visit and lectured him for being a playboy. While Nate insists he’s happy for his sister, he’s worried about the blinding effects of the spotlight. “I’m concerned for her well-being,” Nate told Wetpaint Entertainment exclusively. “She’s a real emotional girl and this process seems tough.”

Desiree’s Bachelorette Season 9 will premiere on ABC Monday, May 20, 2013.
