Carrie Fisher on Bipolar Episode: “I Went Completely Off the Rails”
Last month, Carrie Fisher performed on a cruise ship, but she wasn't completely herself. She was singing off-key, her dog relieved himself on stage, and it all got captured on video and leaked to TMZ. Carrie’s rep told TMZ, "There was a medical incident related to Carrie Fisher’s bipolar disorder. She went to the hospital briefly to adjust her medication and is feeling much better now."
Carrie recently talked to People about what happened, and she's reportedly still recovering at home in L.A.
"I went completely off the rails," said Carrie, adding, "I don't really remember what I did. I haven't watched the videos that people took. I know it got bad. I was in a very severe manic state, which bordered on psychosis. Certainly delusional. I wasn't clear what was going on. I was just trying to survive. There are different versions of a manic state, and normally they're not as extreme as this became. I've only had this happen one other time, 15 years ago, so I didn't have a plan of action. That time I was in a [psychiatric] hospital, and I was being talked to by the television, hallucinating. I wasn't inside the TV this time, thank God. [But] I was in big trouble."
Carrie talks more about what happened in this week's People. It has to be scary to go through an episode like this. We wish her the best in her recovery.
