Everyone from Gwen Stefani to Katy Perry have used the massive exposure of American Idol to catapult careers and/or albums. Phillip Phillips, who performs on tonight’s Top 9 results show, doesn’t exactly need the boost (although we’re still super duper glad he’s back on the show briefly anyway). His first post-Idol album, The World From the Side of The Moon, has recently gone gold.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, the album sold 63,000 copies last week -- a rise in sales that was attributed to a discounted price on iTunes.
In addition to gracing the stage that launched his already-impressive music career, Phillip will be appearing on Jimmy Kimmy Live, Ellen, and other shows in the coming weeks. The song he will be performing is his latest single off the album, “Gone, Gone, Gone”. If it’s anything like his coronation song, “Home,” we’ll be hearing a lot more of this tune.
The singer has admitted that, due to his packed schedule, he won’t have time to watch the show this season, but we imagine the Top 10 hopefuls will be appreciative of any words of advice he throws their way. P2 has defied the negativity that has surrounded the run on WGWGs (white guys with guitars) on the show, and has shown everyone that he’s not only a hitmaker, but he plans to have a long career in music.
