American Idol’s Curtis Finch Jr. Defends Nicki Minaj

Curtis Finch, Jr. was sent home Thursday night on American Idol as the first of the Top 10 to go home this season, but that isn't discouraging him from future plans. And perhaps as much as his dismissal was the story of the night, just as divisive was America's reaction to Nicki Minaj's outburst following Curtis's ouster.

In an interview with Billboard, Curtis defended Nicki and her threats to walk off the show.

"Ah! That's mind-blowing to me. When she said it I was like 'Whoa, make your coins! Get your check! Stay around' because that will make me tune in because I have really transitioned from a contestant now to an American person that's watching the show so I want to see her when I turn on American Idol so I'm glad she didn't walk off."

Curtis also discussed Nicki's much-publicized late arrival to the show and whether or not her absence affected his chances for advancing.

"I think Nicki's great, but I also think the other judges are great as well, and so by her not being there for my performance I don't think really it would have changed today."
