Curtis Finch, Jr. On His American Idol Elimination: “Sky’s the Limit!”

Anyone who watched Curtis Finch, Jr., smile Thursday Night throughout the American Idol 2013 results show, wouldn’t be surprised to know that he’s taking his elimination in stride. In a press conference call on Friday, Curtis talked about being sent home during the Top 10 results show, and the optimistic and talented singer sees nothing but blue skies ahead.

In fact, when asked what his plans are next, he said he’s really looking forward to growing on tour with his fellow Top 10 peers (technically 11 as of next week!). Curtis said he’s going to laugh, cry, and be “goofy” with them. After that, he said, “The sky’s the limit...tune in, guys!” He named Broadway and a stint on Glee as some of his lofty goals.

As for the American Idol 2013 judges, there’s certainly no animosity there. As he said, “The judges always talk with so much passion...I brought consistency and I gave it my all, and I think the judges recognized that.”

So, what was with Nicki Minaj’s “obsession” with Curtis? Well, according to the St. Louis native, what you saw was what you got. She was as complimentary to Curtis off-stage as she was on, and even told him that he made her cry. He said Nicki told him, “I needed that.”

There are often rumors each season about the cutthroat attitudes behind the scenes among the singers, but Curtis said that it was exactly the opposite with the season 12 hopefuls. In fact, he put it sentimentally by saying when he left St. Louis, “I thought I was leaving my family. I didn’t know God would give me another one.”

As for the widespread belief that this a girl’s season to lose, Curtis said, “America is going to have a huge task” in voting for the rest, as they’re all “vocal beasts.” But, unlike Jimmy Iovine, Curtis thinks the guys have just as much chance to win this season.

Do you agree?
