Did LeAnn Rimes’ Affair With Eddie Cibrian Inspire Her Music?
LeAnn Rimes met current husband Eddie Cibrian in 2009 while filming the TV movie Northern Lights together. LeAnn subsequently left husband Dean Sheremet to be with her co-star, while Eddie filed for divorce from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville. Now, the 30-year-old country singer says writing her latest album,Spitfire, has been a “cathartic process” for her. “We were both married to other people and we went through the whole affair and thank God it turned out, it came out in my music and I really didn’t set out to do that,” she told ITV's 'Loose Women’. “It was very cathartic.”
LeAnn said despite the flack she got for being the “other woman,” she doesn’t regret anything.
“Life happens and it was amazing, even though it was crappy at times, but it gave me a lot to write about and I took my time,” she said. “I wrote nine of the 13 songs on the record. It's personal but at the same time I feel like I'm not the only one that has been through what I've been through.”
LeAnn also claimed telling her own side of the story through her music has been “liberating”.
“I'm telling my story,” she said. “I feel like there's been a piece of tape over my mouth for a while, you know growing up in this business is a weird way to grow up and you try to please everyone else and this time around I feel like I've nothing to lose by telling the truth. And it felt very liberating.”
She also talked about one of the most provocative songs on her new album that gives insight into her affair with Eddie.
“My single 'Borrowed' is kind of takes an in-depth look into that situation and it wasn't pretty,” Leann explained. “And I think it was so honest to that song that it kind of opened up a door.”
