Rock and roll may be all about hard living, but, as it turns out, straightening out and flying right actually improve a band’s whole vibe.
Green Day may have learned this lesson the hard way, but if their performance at SXSW was any indication of things to come, the past year’s trials and tribulations may have been worth it.
The band, whose lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, famously went ballistic at a concert last year, cursing promoters and smashing equipment, seems to be on the mend after Billie Joe’s trip to rehab, and, according to Entertainment Weekly, the guys have never played better.
Green Day’s performance at SXSW marked the band’s first show together since Billie Joe’s trip to rehab, and, despite a year of turmoil, everyone, including Armstrong, is in good spirits. He joked with fans, “I wasn’t even on drugs!” during the performance.
As for biting the hand that feeds, which caused troubles at his last show, Billie Joe showed no signs of doing that again. “South by Southwest, the greatest rock bands in the world!” Billie Joe said of the festival. “And a lot of other ones too!”
