Country singer Kellie Pickler first emerged on the music scene at large when she auditioned for American Idol Season 5. Although she only came in sixth place, she went on to sign a record deal with 19 Recordings and score gold status for her debut album, Small Town Girl.
In 2007, Kellie was nominated for “Top New Female Vocalist” in the 42nd Academy of Country Music Awards and received an ASCAP Award for her debut single “Red High Heels”. She also snagged 3 Country Music Television awards. Her second album, Kellie Pickler, debuted at the top of the country charts and landed her another CMT Music Awards nomination. The former American Idol contestant has also been nominated for several Country Music Association Awards and Teen Choice Awards.
In 2012, Kellie left her record label and signed on with indie Black River Entertainment after the release of her third album, 100 Proof. She was announced as a contestant in the Dancing With the Stars Season 16 cast last month. Before the premiere on Monday, Kellie said she hoped people didn’t have too high hopes about her abilities.
“People are expecting me to be good, and I don’t know if I am or not,” Kellie said. “I hope people don’t have too high of expectations for me, because I’m not a dancer.”
In her first outing on DWTS 16, Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough performed the Cha Cha Cha as the first couple of the night and received a relatively positive response from the judges. Len Goodman called it a great start to the season and it was fantastic. Bruno Tonioli said he can’t wait to see Kellie dance again. Carrie Ann Inaba loved her sass and class. Kellie and Derek received a score of 21 out of 30.
Hopefully Kellie will get a chance to make it all the way to the finale this time around!
