Pretty Little Liars Season 3 Finale: What Did the Lighter Mean?
The Pretty Little LiarsSeason 3 finale proved that Toby (Keegan Allen) is alive, but that doesn't mean all is well in the world for Rosewood's most misunderstood brooder. At the end of the episode, someone knocked him out and left a lighter in his hand.
Why? What was the point of the lighter? And who gave it to him?
At this point, we're assuming the assailant was part of the mysterious Jenna/Melissa/Shana triumvirat, whose motivations — and even alliance — is still anything but clear.
We're assuming the main reason for knocking Toby out was to prevent him from helping the Liars caught in the fire, (and also, perhaps, to prevent him from seeing the person in black who he was following in the woods). But why leave a lighter?
Most fans assume the "B" team — as people are starting to call them — want to pin the fire on Toby. That theory makes sense, but the plan really only works if Toby stays passed out, which he didn't. He woke up, and looked at the lighter in confusion. If he pocketed it, there goes the "evidence."
Now, as far as we know there's not really a way to trace the lighting of the fire to a specific lighter, so just leaving Toby with the lighter seems like a flimsy plan, if the idea was to make sure he could be framed.
Is it possible the lighter is also a message of some sort? There's a compass on it. Maybe that has significance.
Do you think that's a possibility, or is the lighter just about a frame job? Share your theories in the comments below.
