Glee’s Santana Named One of TV’s Most Empowered Females
We’ve always known that Glee’s Santana (Naya Rivera) plays by her own rules, whether she’s taking charge of her love life or throwing down in the hallway to represent Lima Heights. As it turns out, we’re not the only ones in awe of her decisions!
So what makes Santana one of TV’s most empowered females? “The recent college dropout and NYC transplant is still trying to find her way in the world — but she does it on her own terms,” TV Line writes.
We definitely agree that she does it on her own terms, considering she basically informed Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Rachel (Lea Michele) that she would be their new roommate. Then, when Hummelberry didn’t believe her about Brody’s (Dean Geyer) sexy career path, Santana decides to leave — but not before swiping Kurt’s pillow. And you just know he spent hours picking out the perfect pillow online.
Speaking of Brody, Santana is singled out in the article for not taking any crap from anyone on the show. “[She] relentlessly (and hilariously) calls out fakers, schemers and folks with dubious intentions,” the article explains.
In other words, if Santana doesn’t like your intentions, then you just might get slapped — as both Finn (Cory Monteith) and Quinn (Dianna Agron) have learned.
And while we’re talking about those slaps, the article acknowledges that being friends with Santana can try one’s patience (and cheek) at times.
“She may not be the easiest friend in the world, but she’s definitely one of the most loyal and inspirational,” TV Line continues.
Other TV ladies to make the list include Rocky from The New Normal, Regina from Once Upon a Time, and Michonne from The Walking Dead.
And while there’s no denying that Santana deserves her spot on the list, we might have liked to see Rachel on there, too. Then again, Rachel hasn’t exactly taken charge of her relationship with Brody, and she needed to be sent to NYC by Finn. So maybe Rachel can learn a few things about empowerment from Santana?
Still, Rachel might want to keep the slapping to a minimum.
