This episode wasn't revolutionary, but it was totally delightful and fun, with just enough emotional moments to balance it out.
The unifying theme of the episode was the odd power dynamics created by having part of the cast now own the hospital. The board decided to shell out big bucks for a fancy new full-body scanner that they then spent the entire episode waiting to use. Bailey tried to convince the board to fund research into genetic mapping. The head of cardio tried to pressure Cristina into giving him money.
While the characters on the board were originally stressed and annoyed by their new role as bosses, by the end of the episode they seemed to have adjusted. The expensive machine was deemed worth every penny. Bailey got her funding and Cristina finagled it so she is now more or less the only other doc in the cardio department. Everyone wins! (Except the head of cardio, but he was a jerk anyway.)
Meanwhile, Arizona got herself a fancy new high-heel leg, and it left her feeling sexy — until her pain ruined the mood. But after she finally let Callie give her a leg massage things got better, and the girls finally got it on. Took long enough!
Perhaps even more excitingly, Mer spent the episode worrying about her baby, until Derek, after a run-in with a worried patient, decided that she needed to relax. They used the hospital's copious machines to check out their baby. Of course, he's okay — and yes, it's a boy!
Overall, we found this episode quite enjoyable. 4 stars. What did you think?
