Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mentor, Joe Weider, Has Died

So sad!

Joe Weider, the legendary fitness icon who helped Arnold Schwarzenegger launch his career in bodybuilding, has passed away. Joe’s death was announced this morning, with heart failure being cited as the cause. He was 93 years old.

Joe was a major figure in the world of men’s fitness. In addition to mentoring the Terminator, he established a magazine publishing empire focused on physical strength and endurance. Muscle & Fitness, Flex, Shape, and Men’s Fitness are all Joe’s creations.

Arnold was quick to comment on the sad news. He released a statement, saying, “Joe didn’t just inspie my earliest dreams; he made them come true the day he invited me to move to America to pursue my bodybuilding career. I will never forget his generosity.”

Meanwhile, Arnold, who has been carousing with a new girlfriend of late, has announced he is going back to his bodybuilding roots. The 65-year-old actor and politician has joined Muscle & Fitness and Flex magazines as executive editor. Yup, those are both Joe’s magazines. We like to think Joe would be proud of Arnold!

Ninety-three is a good run, but that doesn’t ease the pain of losing someone. Our thoughts are with Joe’s family at this time. He’s survived by his wife, Betty.
