French Survivor Contestant, 25, Dies on First Day of Shooting

A French adaptation of Survivor, called Koh-Lanta, saw its new season canceled after the death of 25-year-old contestant Gérald Babin.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the young man had a heart attack Friday on what was the first day of filming in Cambodia.

"After the group jumped from a boat and participated in a tug-of-war, Babin complained of cramps in his arms and was given medical attention at the scene by the staff doctor, before being airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital," reports THR. "He suffered a series of cardiac arrests during the transfer before reaching the facility, the companies said."

The production company said all contestants had received extensive medical examinations and testing as part of the casting process. The future of the French series itself was left in question, but everyone involved with this season was flown back to France.

Our thoughts are with Gérald's family after this shocking tragedy.
