American Idol

Paul Jolley Knew American Idol Elimination Was Coming, Ready to Move On

Paul Jolley’s elimination on American Idol 2013 last week did not come as much of a surprise, especially not to him. Predictions were running strong he would get voted off, despite a general consensus from critics and fans alike that he wasn’t the worst singer of the Season 12 Top 9 finalists. (That unfortunate distinction currently belongs to Lazaro Arbos, according to

“I was not surprised to hear my name called,” Paul told Access Hollywood after the American Idol results show on Thursday. “I’m telling everyone — I had a moment this morning when I woke up and I realized like, this is what is going to happen.”

Despite being booted off American Idol, Paul Jolley is grateful for the experience and the fans he’s gained from being part of the competition.

“Everyone has felt that feeling of being alone, but they get by,” Jolley told The Hollywood Reporter following his elimination. “Now that I’ve been onIdol, I’m moving forward in my journey through life. And having all these fans means I’m not alone anymore. They're going to be there for me 100 percent.”

Paul said he was looking forward to “getting more sleep,” but he’ll miss all the excitement of not knowing what exactly is going to happen next. The Tennessee native says he’ll also miss his new friends now that he’s back home. “I love each and every one of them,” he said. “They’re family.”

Fans of Paul will see him again on the American Idols LIVE! Tour this summer. He’s very excited about the tour and can’t wait to “have fun with it!” Being able to perform without the pressure of voters and judges will be a fabulous change. “There is no voting, there is no four judges just staring me down. I cannot wait to have my moment with the fans,” Paul said in a press conference call after his elimination.

Like Taylor, Paul also wants to branch out beyond just being a hopeful music superstar. On the Top 8 results show, he wore a custom shirt and he would love to get into fashion design to create clothes, shoes, and even jewelry. Paul seems like a very stylish guy, so we definitely wish him luck with that!

Paul is already planning out what his future album is going to sound like. He still hopes to become a “country-pop artist” and isn’t shy about his dream of becoming a male version of Taylor Swift despite any conflicting advice from the judges after his last few performances on American Idol 2013. “I don't want to change what I feel in my heart my calling is and what I need to be doing,” Paul said. “I feel like once everybody catches on and sees where I want to go with this career, and they hear the original material that I wanted to do, I think there will be a better understanding.”

As for all the negative criticism during his time on American Idol 2013, Paul said he never let it get to him. “There are so many things you have to worry about and it takes a toll on how your performance comes across,” he said. “I honestly would not change a single thing that I did on the show. I chose my song choices for a reason. Everything I spoke and the way I spoke, I was truthful and honest and I was myself.”
