The Voice 2013: How Did Shakira Do as a Season 4 Coach?

The wait is over! The March 25 premiere of The Voice Season 4 introduced us to new coaches Shakira and Usher. And though we definitely missed Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, last night’s energy was fresh and exciting.

Host Carson Daly predicted that America would fall in love with Colombian pop star Shakira after the first episode of the show, and now we know why.

Not only did she carefully craft her critiques to show artists that she really supported them, but her playful banter with returning coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton and her natural ease around fellow newbie Usher made her a perfect fit for the show.

At one point during the premiere, Shakira took it upon herself to comfort a particularly crushed contestant, James Irwin, after his audition failed to turn any chairs. An emotional James told the coaches that he viewed this audition as his “second chance.”

“Life, thank God, is full of second and third chances, and I think you should try it again,” she replied.

Lines like that make us wonder why Shakira hasn’t been coaching all along. Being the sole female is a tough task (as Christina Aguilera frequently reminds us), but Shak holds her own when battling the boys.

Clearly, we’re big fans, but tell us what you think! Is Shakira a good coach? Vote below!
