You’ve heard the famous tagline for years, but is it finally true? Is American Idol host Ryan Seacrest OUT...like, for good? According to a video from Buzz60, the beloved host, who has become as well known for his stylish clothes, pearly whites, and fantastic hair as his affable demeanor, may have come to the end of his Idol journey.
As Kristina Behr of Buzz60 notes, reports of Ryan getting the axe have been swirling, as the powers that be behind the show might be planning a shakeup due to low ratings. The rumor mill also points to the fact that the uber professional host’s lofty salary is too expensive for the show to handle anymore.
As Buzz60 also notes, however, Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe has said that the show could end if “Seacrest gets voted out.” We agree! Of course, the online world has also been abuzz with rumors that Matt Lauer may be leaving the Today Show, and that Ryan would be filling his (oh-so-tiny) shoes.
A source told Perez Hilton that the rumors of Ryan’s departure are likely true, and that the reasoning is the head honchos want to get back to the show’s original roots:
“Producers and TV executives are very concerned about how much lower the show can actually fall. This is bad news. Very bad news … When you are getting beat by Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal in the demo, changes have to be made … One suggestion is going back to square one and finding two industry insider judges, like Simon [Cowell] and Randy [Jackson] were during season one, plus, a Paula Abdul type – someone in the industry past his or her prime. This way they can turn the judges into stars rather than the other way around. Another radical idea is going back to how the show began and finding a young host that isn’t yet a household name. It would save the show a lot of money.”
First Julianne Hough–now Idol! Who else is going to abandon our lovely Ryan? One thing’s for sure–that guy keeps a live show running like a well-oiled machine and we’ve never seen him sweat. Who could do the same? Brian Dunkleman? Groan.
What would you think of the show without Ryan at the helm?
