Has The Bachelorette Ever Said No to a Proposal?

The Bachelorette franchise started out strong, with a romantic love journey ending in a proposal, engagement, and the fairy tale wedding of Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter. However, after eight full seasons of the reality series, Trista and Ryan are the only Bachelorette couple still together. While we’re hopeful Desiree Hartsock is going to meet her Ryan on Season 9, we can’t help but ponder the possibilities if she doesn’t. We know plenty of Bachelorettes have said yes to the season-ending proposal, but has anyone ever said no?

The answer might surprise you — because it’s such a small number. Only one Bachelorette in the history of the franchise has ever said no, and even then she didn’t technically turn down a proposal. In Season 3, Bachelorette Jen Schefft walked away from both of her final guys before either could propose. So, technically, Brad Womack pulled a Jen when he did the same thing during The Bachelor Season 12 finale. Jen is now married to a non-Bachelor person (and has two kids!) while Brad went on to his second Bachelor stint, in which he proposed to Emily Maynard and then broke up with her six months later.

Jason Mesnick almost got his proposal out before Deanna Pappas rejected him, choosing Jesse Csincsak in The Bachelorette Season 4 finale. The more you know!
