Once Upon a Time Star Colin O’Donoghue’s Band, The Enemies — 5 Things to Know!
You may know him as the dastardly yet dashing Captain Hook on ABC’s Once Upon A Time, but Colin O’Donoghue is a man of many talents. Just ask fans of his band, The Enemies. We’ve mentioned our favorite pirate heartbreaker’s musical stylings before, but here are five things to know about The Enemies:
1. They’re Irish
As in, they’re from the east coast of Ireland (they’ve got accents and everything!), and not as in they have a harpist, fiddler, and an updated rock version of “Danny Boy” (though that would be awesome). No, The Enemies have more of a pop/rock vibe to their music and, according to their website, are known for their “spontaneity live” (just like Hook). [Ed. note: We’ve seen them live and can definitely vouch for this.]
2. Colin plays guitar
That’s right. Captain Hook. Shredding (not literally) on the guitar. He also plays the mandolin, piano, harmonica, and accompanies on vocals — which lines up nicely with our plans for an All Singing! All Dancing! episode of OUAT. Obviously, in this scenario, Captain Hook and the Pirates would be a rock band. And he can invite his bandmates (frontman Ronan McQuillan, lead guitarist Johnny Crean, drummer Mark “Monty” Montague, and bassist Martin “Brush” Shields) to play his pirates, natch.
3. The bass player helped Colin get his role in The Rite
Before starring on OUAT, Colin had a role in the film, The Rite, with actor Sir Anthony Hopkins (maybe you’ve heard of him?). Anyway, Colin’s original audition tape for the part was read against bassist, Mark. Band mates and acting partners — now that’s the perfect combination.
4. They’re not just pretty faces...
They’re hard workers, too. In addition to live gigs and the release of their EP in 2011, the band has also recorded songs for advertisements for GM, Direct TV, and Cornetto. In 2012, they co-wrote and recorded the theme song for Max Adventures, an animated global television show, and their full-length album is set to drop soon.
5. They’re Team Captain Swan!
Colin has used his blossoming career to promote his band, so we suppose it’s only fair that the band does to the same for Colin’s acting commitments. But we were still excited to see the band is not against using their official website to drop OUAT references. Colin’s bio says he performs with the band when he is not busy “‘Swanning around’ on his Pirate Ship!” Do we have some closet Captain Swan shippers in the house? Because that is awesome.
