The previews for Episode 20 are certainly constructed to make us think Meredith's in for some bad news.
The Canadian promo is especially dire. In it, Meredith tells Bailey, "I want to know if I'm going to get Alzheimer's." Then we see Bailey say, "You have tested positive..." Cut to Derek telling Mer, "Even if you get the disease it's decades away," and Mer replying, "It might not be."
The obvious implication is that Mer tested positive for Alzheimer's. But is that actually what happens?
We think it's notable that in both the Canadian and American promos, the only part of Bailey's statement we hear is "you have tested positive." We don't hear her say for what. It's possible that she's talking about something other than Alzheimer's. After all, we know the promos are often misleading. In the same way, we only hear Derek say "the disease," not "Alzheimer's" specifically.
Plus, Alzheimer's isn't always a yes or no prospect. It's possible Bailey will tell Meredith that she has tested positive for a genetic indicator that means she's more likely to get it, without it being a done deal.
That said, it does sound like Meredith gets some form of bad news. The official synopsis for the episode warns, "upon receiving some unsettling news, Meredith and Derek take preventative steps for their children's future."
What do you think: Will Meredith test positive for Alzheimer's, or is all the worry over something else (something hopefully more minor!)?
