Jett Hermano Talks Favorite Judge and Why a Girl Will Win — Exclusive
We didn’t see much of American Idol 2013 Top 40 contestant Jett Hermano until Hollywood Week, but the petite singer made a splash during the Las Vegas sudden death round with her sultry rendition of Rihanna’s “Only Girl in the World.”
Seated at the piano, Jett delivered a breathy vocal that American Idol judge Keith Urban praised for its restrained sex appeal, but some of the other judges wanted more of a climax.
Sadly, Jett Hermano was cut from the Top 40, but the Seattle-based artist is thankful for the audition experience — and for being able to meet her musical idol, Mariah Carey.
But surprisingly, Mimi isn’t Jett’s favorite Season 12 judge: it’s actually Nicki Minaj!
“She’s actually my favorite judge this season because I do respect her honesty,” Jett told Wetpaint Entertainment in an exclusive interview.
Speaking about Nicki’s comments after her Las Vegas round performance, Jett said, “When she told me, ‘I felt like there was no climax,’ in my head I was like I agree with you, I could have done more.”
In fact, it was the revamped American Idol judges’ panel that had Jett excited about audition for the show this year.
“I do respect Nicki and Mariah, and I love them both,” she said. “I was like, it would be great to just meet them. I think that’s why everyone went out to audition this year. It’s definitely a different kind of panel. I feel like their chemistry grew, and it’s still growing. They’re super relevant, and they're people that a lot of these contestants want follow.”
Like many have speculated this year, even the judges themselves, Jett thinks a girl will join the ranks of AmericanIdol winners this time around.
“It’s definitely a girl’s season like everyone's been saying,” Jett told us. “I honestly think that it might be between Candice and Angie. After listening to one of Nicki's interviews, I agree that they’ve both won people over, not just as singers but as people. Everybody loves both of them.”
Now back home in Seattle, Washington, Jett isn’t resting on her laurels. She’s working on some new material for an album and an EP, and she’s collaborating with local choreographers for an exciting music video. She’s also lining up a potential concert in the Philippines, where she received a lot of support during her time on American Idol.
So will Jett be auditioning for American Idol Season 13 next year?
“If it is something that is allowed, then I might,” she said. Hopefully we won’t be seeing the last of Jett Hermano!
