Nashville Season 1, Episode 16 Promo Analysis: “I Saw the Light”

According to the official synopsis for Nashville Season 1, Episode 16, “I Saw the Light,” everyone is going to go through some major changes during the course of the hour-long evening. And based on the promo we’ve sifted through, those changes also include some hot and heavy action for some of our favorite key players (emphasis on players).

As for the hook-ups, well... there are a lot of them. Scroll through the screencaps we grabbed from the promo to find out what’s in store for the superstars and their super hot friends and enemies.

Tandy: “You are on a fifty foot billboard in Times Square!”

While Rayna (Connie Britton) has the best intentions for her family when she brings Maddie (Lennon Stella), Daphne (Maisy Stella), and Tandy (Judith Hoag) on the road with her to New York, events don’t go exactly as planned.

Voiceover: “Next Wednesday, the Big Apple...”

Rayna really does belong on every billboard in town. But as for how Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) will take it, well...

Juliette: “It should be my face up there, not hers.”

“Not well” would be a short way of assessing Juliette’s reaction to Rayna’s perceived success over her own.

Admittedly, it looks like this is staring at Juliette through her hotel room, and that is rough...

Rayna: “Cheers”

Um, cheers yourself. Who is Rayna celebrating, and what warranted champagne? Probably their sold out concert. But that doesn’t look like a girl’s hand. Is she on a date?

Voiceover: “...leads to big romance”

So, whatever’s going on with Scarlett (Clare Bowen) and Gunnar (Sam Palladio) — and whatever their future holds — at least we’ll get to watch them hook up a little more.

Teddy: “Nobody can know you were here.”

Ew. Peggy (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) is gorgeous and all, but we hate any hookup that starts out in the dirty zone Teddy (Eric Close) puts it in.

Peggy drops her jacket and strolls over to Teddy in nothing but her pumps. Sick.

Voiceover: “...and even bigger...”

That’s obviously Juliette’s tiny frame. Um, Dante (Jay Hernandez)? Hello there deltoids. It’s nice to see you. According to the synopsis, “Dante gives Juliette some career guidance that helps her see him in a whole new way.” Yeah, well, we’re seeing him in a whole new way too... one we really like.

Rayna: “Y’all working together?”

Ugh, so awkward. Rayna and Tandy spot Deacon (Charles Esten), Stacey (Susan Misner), and Sue on the street and are all Southern hospitality until...

Deacon: “No, no, she’s, um,”

Wait, can we just pause and all notice that Deacon has allowed his boy dog to wear a crocheted sweater collar-looking thing? W-H-I-P-P-E-D.

Stacey: “I’m his girlfriend.”

A well-timed gust of wind always makes the dagger effect of words like this settle in just so much more handsomely.

Deacon: “my girlfriend.”

Yep, that’s the face we’d be making too.

Voiceover: “...drama.”

Cue flashback of Rayna and Deacon hooking up...

Stacey: “You’ve clearly had history with both the headliners.”

Aaaaand one of Juliette mounting Deax too. Those were the days.

Deacon: “It is history.”

Sorry to say it, but if you’re the jealous type, being with a traveling musician who’s on tour with two of his exes is probably not the ideal set up for you.

Stacey: “You know, it doesn’t really seem like that.”

But way to say what you feel, Stace. Word is you’re going to be sticking around for awhile, so we’re pretty sure you get over whatever hangups you’ve got making you uncomfortable. Perhaps a talking-to with Rayna or Juliette is in order? It would at least be entertaining.
